FAQ’s
-
Intercultural couples therapy supports partners from different cultural, racial, religious, or national backgrounds. We explore how cultural identity, family values, and communication patterns shape your relationship so you can build deeper understanding and connection.
-
Yes. Many couples seek therapy not because something is “wrong,” but because they feel disconnected, stuck in patterns, or want to strengthen their relationship before issues escalate. Therapy can help deepen connection, communication, and emotional safety.
-
Differences in communication styles, culture, or emotional expression are common in relationships. In therapy, we slow these patterns down, increase understanding on both sides, and help you build new ways of connecting that feel more secure and intentional.

About Shaelyn (she/her)
Relational couples therapist specializing in intercultural couples, attachment-based therapy, and EFT-informed couples counseling for partners navigating conflict, disconnection, and cultural differences.
I work with individuals, couples, and families navigating relationship stress, communication challenges, emotional disconnection, identity exploration, parenting stress, and major life transitions. Much of my work focuses on helping people better understand the emotional patterns underneath conflict and reactive cycles so they can more toward greater clarity, security, and connection in their relationships.
My approach is warm, relational, and direct. I strive to create a supportive space where clients feel safe enough to explore vulnerability, strengthen self-awareness, and engage with difficult emotions. This process supports meaningful and lasting change.
I have a particular passion for supporting intercultural couples and partners navigating differences in culture, identity, values, family dynamics, or lived experiences. I also enjoy supporting parents of children with disabilities as they navigate the emotional, relational, and systemic challenges that can arise within family life.
I work with a wide range of relationship structures and identities to create a therapeutic environment grounded in curiosity, respect, emotional safety, and authenticity.
My work is rooted in attachment theory and guided by a humanistic, systemic perspective. I integrate approaches including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), the Satir Human Growth Model, and Gottman Method for couples therapy.
